Ingredients
- 1 ball of pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
- ½ cup good quality tomato sauce or crushed San Marzano tomatoes
- 200g (7 oz) fresh mozzarella, sliced or torn
- Fresh basil leaves
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- Salt and black pepper
- Optional: grated Parmesan
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to the highest temperature (475–500°F / 245–260°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven while preheating.
- On a lightly floured surface, stretch or roll the pizza dough into a 12-inch circle. Transfer to a pizza peel or baking sheet lined with parchment.
- Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce over the dough, leaving a small border for the crust.
- Scatter the mozzarella evenly over the sauce.
- Drizzle with olive oil and season lightly with salt and pepper.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
- Remove from oven, top with fresh basil leaves, and drizzle with a little more olive oil. Slice and serve immediately.
Pro Tip: For the best crust, preheat your oven with a pizza stone or steel for at least 45 minutes.
